Spiritual Direction

A dirt path winding through a forest of tall trees and ferns

Noticing God in the Ordinary

Spiritual direction is an ancient practice of the Church: a prayerful, confidential relationship in which one person accompanies another in paying attention to God’s presence and invitation in everyday life. It is not counseling, coaching, or a class. The true Director is the Holy Spirit; my role is to listen deeply with you, ask good questions, and help you notice where God is already at work.

People come to spiritual direction for many reasons—a longing to pray more honestly, a season of dryness or doubt, a major decision, a sense that God is inviting them deeper but they aren’t sure where. Our time together may draw on Scripture, lectio divina, praying the Psalms, examen, silence, and the wisdom of the great tradition of the Church, all grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I trained in Christian Formation and Soul Care at Denver Seminary, and I continue to be formed by the same practices I share with others. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You only need to come as you are.

What you can expect from me

  • Monthly sessions of about 60 minutes, in person or by video
  • A free initial conversation to see whether we are a good fit
  • Attentive, unhurried, prayerful listening without judgment or agenda
  • Strict confidentiality (within legal and ethical limits, such as risk of harm)
  • Gentle suggestions for prayer practices, Scripture, or reading when helpful
  • Honesty if I sense another form of care (such as counseling) would serve you better
  • My own ongoing commitment to supervision, prayer, and spiritual formation

What I ask of you

  • Come with openness and honesty—there are no “right” things to bring
  • Commit to meeting regularly, ideally for at least 6 months, before evaluating
  • Arrive on time, and give 24 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule
  • Take responsibility for your own spiritual life and choices; I accompany, I do not direct your decisions
  • Let me know if you are in crisis or need urgent mental health care, so we can find the right support
