Honoring a Life, Holding Your Grief, Proclaiming Hope

When someone you love dies, the world can feel unsteady. In the midst of shock, sorrow, and many decisions, you deserve someone who will listen carefully, care for your family gently, and help you honor your loved one well. As a chaplain, I have sat with many people in places of grief, and it is my privilege to walk alongside families in these tender days.

I lead funerals, memorial services, celebrations of life, and graveside committals. I will take time to learn about the person you love—their story, their quirks, their faith, the way they loved—so that the service truly reflects their life. Whether your loved one was a lifelong believer, a seeker, or someone whose faith you weren’t sure of, I will speak with honesty and compassion.

Above all, I want your family to hear the hope of the gospel: that in Jesus Christ, death does not have the final word. Grief and hope can stand side by side, and you do not have to carry either one alone.

What you can expect from me

  • A prompt response, understanding that timing is often urgent
  • A family meeting (in person, by phone, or by video) to hear stories and plan the service
  • Help selecting Scripture, prayers, music, and any readings or tributes
  • A personal eulogy or homily, prepared with care and offered with compassion
  • Coordination with your funeral home, church, or venue
  • Leadership of the service and graveside committal, if desired
  • Follow-up contact in the weeks after the service to check in on your family
  • Confidentiality and respect for your family’s story and dynamics

What I ask of you

  • Contact me (or ask your funeral home to contact me) as early as possible
  • Designate one family point person for planning and communication
  • Share stories, photos, an obituary, or memories that help me know your loved one
  • Let me know who else will speak, and approximate lengths, so the service flows well
  • Provide the service time, location, and funeral home contact details
